The Philadelphia Housing Authority, also known as PHA, is one of the biggest landlords in Pennsylvania. It develops, acquires, leases and operates affordable housing units for city residents with limited incomes. Established in 1937, the authority houses more than 84,000 people in Philadelphia and employs over 1,250 people. Its client services department helps more than 48,000 people who are involved in the Section 8 Housing Choice program. The Philadelphia Housing Authority owns and operates over 13,400 housing units in town house, garden apartment and high-rise developments. It offers Family Self-Sufficiency, pharmacy technician training, summer food service and early childhood education programs. In addition, the authority organizes on-site health clinics and offers counseling programs. It is located in Philadelphia.
