As the United States division of European conglomerate Mittal Steel, ArcelorMittal is the largest steel producer in the United States. The company was formed during the 2005 merger of Mittal Steel s existing U.S. business, Ispat Inland, with the assets of International Steel Group. ArcelorMittal is a major supplier to the North American automotive industry as well as to the broader transportation sector, serving customers in the trucking, off-highway, agricultural equipment and railway industries. The company also has a strong customer base in the appliance, office furniture, electrical motors, packaging and industrial machinery markets. With more than 175,000 employees globally and shipments of more than 42.1 million tons in 2004, Mittal Steel is the world's largest and most global steel company. ArcelorMittal has approximately 25 manufacturing, marketing and research facilities throughout the Eastern U.S., including a plant in Steelton, Pa.
