Unemployment Compensation, also known as UC, is a program that protects workers against job loss by providing temporary income support. The program helps individuals and employers in filing claims for unemployment compensation services in Pennsylvania. It includes UC Tax Services (UCTS), which administers the tax portion of the program and maintains the statewide network of field offices. Unemployment Compensation operates various service centers that take and process claims. It also includes a federally funded disaster unemployment assistance program that provides financial and re-employment support solutions. Unemployment Compensation is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, which was established in 1913 and employs more than 6,000 workers. The department is a part of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
