History
The Zelienople Municipal Airport is a public general aviation facility owned by the Borough of Zelienople and managed by the Zelienople Municipal Authority. It covers about 240 acres. Originally the site of a strip mine, the land was rehabilitated as a private landing strip in the 1940's and established as a public field in the 1950's. Because of its close proximity to local industrial parks, particularly in Cranberry Twp., it is experiencing considerable growth. It provides facilities for private aviation including hanger and tie-down space. It houses the Condor Aero Flying Club which provides flight instruction, rental planes and support for its membership. It houses the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA - Chapter 857) which builds and maintains small aircraft and provides other diverse activities. Pittsburgh Jet Center is the fixed-base operator who provides maintenance, refueling and charter services.
