The North Providence Police Department is a professional police organization that employs more than 70 full-time sworn police officers and over 25 nonsworn civilians. It utilizes the latest technological advancements in crime fighting and criminal investigations. The department serves more than 33,500 people within an area of over 5.67 square miles. It has various divisions, including patrol, community police, investigative, special investigations, prosecution and animal control. The department s patrol operations divsion is responsible for developing procedures, strategies and tactics for carrying out the patrol functions of the department. Its criminal intelligence unit collects, collates, stores, disseminates and analyzes criminal intelligence information from several sources. The police department is located in North Providence, R.I., and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
