Edgefield County School District has been operational for more than 40 years. Located in Edgefield, S.C., it is one of the largest school districts in the United States. The district comprises more than 10 elementary, middle and high schools and over five special and adult education centers. Its schools utilize problem solving and hands-on learning in mathematics for sequential development of number concepts and computation, and thematic units for science, health and social studies. The district features state-of-the-art computer and science laboratories, cultural resource centers, support and extend classrooms, technology-based libraries, gymnasiums, and multipurpose cafeterias. It provides specialized classes in arts and crafts, music and physical and health education. Additionally, the district s students participate in various activities, such as musical performances, dramatic productions, author and artist-in-residence programs, school spirit days, community service programs, and field days.
