Furman Middle School serves more than 1,000 students in grades six through eight. Its academic programs include instruction in science, history, English and mathematics. The school also offers music, physical education, computer science, and fine and performing arts classes. Furman Middle School provides special education courses to assist students in improving writing, communication and computing skills. The school operates a media center that provides reading and research materials. It is governed by Sumter School District Two, which comprises over 60 elementary, middle and high schools and serves nearly 9,400 students. Sumter School District Two additionally offers college-level courses to qualified students through Central Carolina Technical College.
