Shaw Air Force Base is home to the U.S. Air Force's 20th Fighter Wing, which is a combat F-16 wing. Its mission is to provide, project and sustain combat-ready air forces. The base also serves as home to Headquarters Ninth Air Force and U.S. Air Forces Central. Shaw Air Force Base focuses on projecting air and space power for U.S. Central Command and the United States. Its Air Combat Command is the primary force provider of combat airpower to war fighting commands. The base operates fighter, bomber, reconnaissance, battle management and electronic-combat aircrafts. Shaw Air Force Base provides command, control, communications and intelligence systems, and conducts global information operations. It also organizes, trains, equips and maintains combat-ready forces for rapid deployment and employment.
