Prairie Homestead Historic Site is a must-see attraction for visitors exploring the Badlands of South Dakota, offering a glimpse into the life of early settlers through its interpretive walking tour and informative movie. The site features an original pioneer sod home, built in 1909, and various outbuildings that showcase the ingenuity and resilience of the pioneers who settled the Great Plains.

Conveniently located just off of I-90 at the Eastern Gate to Badlands National Park, Prairie Homestead provides an immersive experience where visitors can learn about the challenges and triumphs of early pioneers while enjoying the opportunity to pet barnyard animals and witness the amusing antics of a real Prairie Dog town.
