Founded in 1940, Chickasaw Electric Cooperative is a provider of electric power. The cooperative purchases the power from several electric utilities that border its service territory. The utilities are owned by the Tennessee Valley Authority. Founded by the United States Congress in 1933. The department provides wholesale power to more than 150 municipal and cooperative power distributors and directly serves 60-plus large industries and government installations in the Tennessee Valley. Its service area covers more than 80,000 square miles of land in the states of Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia. Chickasaw Electric Cooperative is located in Somerville, Tenn.
