He earned his D.M.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and went on to complete a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, with his research on oral cancer tumor suppression published in Nature Chemical Biology. He also holds a Master of Public Health degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia.
