Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative was incorporated as the Lower Colorado River Electric Cooperative in 1939. In 1964, in order to avoid confusion with the Lower Colorado River Authority, the organization changed its name to Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative. Bluebonnet Electric is one of the largest electric cooperatives in Texas, owned by its members and with all profits allocated to them. Bluebonnet employs approximately 300 people, and is led by a 10-member board of directors, elected by the membership at the cooperative s annual meeting, held every May. The original and enduring purpose of Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative is to provide affordable, reliable electric service for residents in a large part of rural central Texas. It is located in Giddings, Texas.
