APWU, also known as the American Postal Workers Union, is one of the largest postal unions in the world. Founded in 1971, the union represents more than 330,000 United States Postal Service employees and retirees and over 2,000 private sector mail workers. It operates a maintenance division that is comprised of nearly 45,000 employees who specialize in general office work, cleaning, painting and plumbing services. APWU s industrial relations department provides labor management, national negotiation, mechanization, and worker safety and health services. It also operates a support services division that offers clerical, computer operation, programming, telecommunication, payroll processing, accounting, customer support, manufacturing, warehousing and equipment maintenance services.
