The Brazos River Authority is one of the oldest river authorities in Texas. Founded in 1929, the authority owns and operates water supply reservoirs and contracts with the Corps of Engineers for the water supply storage space at federal flood control and water conservation reservoirs. It also manages a regional wastewater system, as well as owns wastewater treatment plants through an alliance with the Lower Colorado River Authority. The authority additionally deals in water quality monitoring activities. It has more than 250 employees who pursue water conservation through public education programs. Its speaker s bureau offers information on water planning, flood management, and water and wastewater treatment.
