The Special Education Department, administered by the Independent School District, provides a range of courses and programs for students with disabilities. The department conducts parent training and informational sessions. It also offers a variety of audiological services. The Special Education Department additionally provides interpreting services that include a combination of communication modes, such as sign language, oral and cued speech interpreters. The department also offers language habilitation, auditory training, hearing evaluation and speech conservation services. Its other services include health care, counseling, occupational therapy, and orientation and mobility training services. The Special Education Department also provides a range of psychological and social work services. The department is located in San Antonio.

Southwest High School, established in 1951, offers education to students in grades nine through 12. The school has an enrollment of more than 2,700 students and is affiliated with the Southwest Independent School District. The school s curriculum includes a variety of subjects, such as family and consumer science, English, mathematics, science, social studies and computer technology. It also has a career and technology center that provides courses in automotive technology, agricultural science, business education, construction trades, cosmetology, criminal justice, culinary arts, health science technology and aerospace industry. The extracurricular activities offered by the school include journalism, band, dramatics, and arts and language competitions. It also has a parent-teacher association that organizes school activities and provides scholarship opportunities to students. Southwest High School is located in San Antonio.
