Shinil K. Shah, DO, FACS is a board certified surgeon and is among the few who has undergone additional fellowship training in minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery. This foundation allows Dr. Shah to provide more treatment options to patients seeking gastrointestinal care. Whenever possible, Dr. Shah uses minimally invasive or incision-less techniques such as robotic, laparoscopic and endoscopic approaches. He sees patients for a variety of digestive diseases such as reflux/heartburn, weight loss, achalasia, hernias, ulcers, gastrointestinal tumors and gastric cancer. He also performs solid organ surgery (pancreas, spleen, and adrenal glands), complex abdominal wall reconstruction and colon surgery. Whenever possible, he uses minimally invasive techniques for the care of the entire spectrum of acute abdominal surgical issues, including disorders of the gallbladder and appendix, small and large bowel obstruction, perforated ulcers, diverticulitis, and perforated/obstructed/bleeding gastrointestinal tumors. Dr. Shah holds many academic positions. He is a medical director of clinical research, an associate professor of surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), and is a faculty member with the Michael E. DeBakey Institute for Comparative Cardiovascular Science and Biomedical Devices at Texas A&M University. He has authored/coauthored over 100 peer reviewed manuscripts and book chapters.
