Founded by Robert Redford in 1981 in Sundance, Utah, Sundance Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the development of artists with independent vision and the exhibition of those artists new work. Since its inception, the Institute has become a resource for thousands of independent artists through its Sundance Film Festival and artistic-development programs for filmmakers, screenwriters, composers, writers, playwrights and theatre artists. The programs of Sundance Institute include the annual Sundance Film Festival, held in Park City, Utah, each January; the Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program; the Sundance Institute Feature Film Program; the Sundance Institute Theatre Program; and the Sundance Institute Film Music Program. The company also maintains The Sundance Collection, an archive of independent film, at the University of California, Los Angeles. The Sundance Institute has its headquarters in Salt Lake City.
