American Academy of Physician Assistants, located in Alexandria, Va., provides physician assistant programs and promotes health care services. It represents physician assistants in all specialties and provides educational programs and clinical research. The academy provides associate, bachelor s and master s degrees in various disciplines, such as cardiothoracic surgery, dermatology, neonatology, neurology, and trauma and critical care. Additionally, it runs various campaigns, such as Partnership for Prescription Assistance, Asthma Action America and Healthy People 2010. Its Partnership for Prescription Assistance campaign brings America's pharmaceutical companies, health care providers, patient advocacy organizations and community groups together for helping patients deprived of prescription coverage. It supports the National Folic Acid Awareness Week that promotes health benefits and consumption of folic acid for the prevention of neural tube defects. Its programs are approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant. It operates Eastern Virginia Medical School, James Madison University and Jefferson College of Health Sciences in Virginia.
