Founded in 1971, Central Virginia Correctional Unit #13 is a level one security facility that houses more than 200 female prisoners. The unit provides counseling, substance abuse treatment and supervision services. It also assigns tasks, such as clearing debris and picking up trash to inmates. Central Virginia Correctional Unit #13 offers mental health care, chemical dependency and educational services. The center is located in Chesterfield, Va. Central Virginia Correctional Unit #13 is a part of the Virginia Department of Corrections, which promotes public safety and assists felons in returning to normal life. It provides crisis intervention, advocacy and family support services to crime victims. The department has a staff of over 13,000 employees.
