In 1870, Zalmon Simmons built his first factory in Kenosa, Wis. With the help of nine employees, Simmons originally manufactured wooden insulators and cheese boxes. Since then, Simmons Bedding Company has expanded as the maker of Beautyrest, BackCare, Olympic Queen, and Deep Sleep mattresses. In 2001, Simmons introduces the first new mattress size in 42 years. The Olympic Queen mattress was developed to be a full six inches larger, which is that's 10 percent more sleeping space than a queen size mattress, but made to fit on a traditional queen frame. Today, Simmons has 18 manufacturing plants in the US and Puerto Rico, as well as 23 international licensees and sub-licensees. The Beautyrest continues to distinguished itself from other mattresses and Simmons BackCare continues to help Simmons continues to promote its Better Sleep Through Science philosophy.
