The National Association for Music Education, headquartered in Reston, Va., was established in 1907 and provides music educational programs. It operates various music associations, such as the Alabama Music Educators Association, Alaska Music Educators Association and the Californian Association for Music Education. It has more than 130,000 members including music teachers, university faculty and researchers, college students and high school National Honor Society members. The association has developed programs in music education and provides art instructions to students in grades kindergarten through 12. It publishes documents in instructional techniques for assisting students in accomplishing the standards dealing with various issues, such as staffing, scheduling, equipment, technology and assessment. Additionally, the association offers books, videos and compact discs and publishes magazines and journals on music education. It also sponsors MIOSM, a public outreach program designed to support school music programs and raise awareness on the importance of music education.
