The Regional Alternative Education Program provides regional students with long-term suspensions or expulsions an opportunity to continue their education. The program is administered by Stafford County Public Schools, but is centrally located in downtown Fredericksburg. The goal of the educators at RAEP is to continue the education of the students referred there to prepare them to re-enter their home high school once their suspension or expulsion has been served. As a result, students do not graduate from RAEP. Instead, their academic and test performance is still counted towards their home schools.
