Founded in 1988, Walker Upper Elementary School has an enrollment of more than 700 students in grades five and six. The school has a library and media center that offers a collection of more than 6,300 books on various topics, including animals, biographies, mysteries, fantasy, humor and adventure. It offers extended day program that include various club activities and academic learning experiences, such as archery, art and craft, brain games, creative cooking, dramatic speeches in history, paper crafts, photography and sign language. The school provides education in various other subjects, including English, math, science, social studies, music, art, fine and performing arts, foreign language, and physical and technology education. Walker Upper Elementary School is operated by the Charlottesville City Public Schools that also operates other high, middle and elementary schools.
