Dairyland Power Cooperative is a cooperative organization that provides the wholesale electrical requirements and other services for 25 electric distribution cooperatives and 20 municipal utilities. These cooperatives and municipals, in turn, supply the energy needs of more than half a million people. It strives to provide services that exceed its expectations by emphasizing honest, quality and other sound business principles. It has an impressive track record of controlling sulfur dioxide emissions. Since the early 1970 s, reductions have totaled up to 80 percent. Dairyland has included $125 million in its 2004-2007 budget for plant emission controls. In 2004, 90 percent of its coal fly ash was recycled for beneficial use, such as a cement additive. Dairyland is one of eight U.S. utilities comprising Private Fuel Storage, a group that has worked since 1994 to develop temporary spent fuel storage facilities. It is located in La Crosse, Wis.
