The Indianhead Community Action Agency works to secure local, state, private and federal resources to enable low-income and disadvantaged individuals of all ages in rural areas to attain the skills, knowledge and motivation that are needed to become self-sufficient. Founded in 1966, it serves the residents of Burnett, Clark, Rusk, Sawyer, Taylor and Washburn counties in Northwestern Wisconsin. The agency administers several business development programs. The Indianhead Community Action Agency also offers transportation, weatherization and housing development services. Its Rusk County Youth Coalition (RCYC) works for the purpose of preventing and solving the significant alcohol, drug and violence problems in children and youths.
