Marlinton is a town in Pocahontas County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 1,204 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Pocahontas County.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,204 people, 552 households, and 290 families residing in the town. The population density was 539.8 inhabitants per square mile (208.5/km²). There were 653 housing units at an average density of 292.8 per square mile (113.1/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97.92% White, 1.16% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.08% from other races, and 0.66% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.17% of the population.
There were 552 households out of which 22.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.9% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 47.3% were non-families. 42.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 21.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
